Quality control at Apple
March 16th, 2008Apple and their quality control leaves to be desired, especially on their last revision of the MacBook Pro’s.
Late last week I purchased the MBP from Apple’s Online store. Thinking about the resale value, I decided to spec up the bottom model. I added:
- Glossy Screen
- 250GB HDD
Picking against matte was a hard decision, and only decided to go with it due to the everyone I’ve spoken to, for some “darker blacks” reason preferring glossy screens - so I thought I’d go with it for resale value sake.
Unfortunately upon the much anticipated and late arrival of the MBP, thank you TNT - I discovered that not only where the hard drive was replaced was the seam in widened between the aluminum and the gray bezel. To add to the exceptionally poor quality control, when the laptop is closed, the lid remains ‘UNEVENLY‘ elevated from the base, and thus producing a very ugly gap.

As much as I enjoy using OS X, and Apple products in general, I am far from impressed about the build quality of their laptops. Apple should spend more time on testing the usability of their products, as sometimes it seems form takes over function.

mine is the same way and it’s only a month old. Worth asking Apple about? It was there when I first bought it, but only slight. Should not have that problem on 2G machine..

@chris - wouldn’t it be nice if you bought your bmw {as that’s how I see Apple in the land of pc’s} and it have panels mis-aligned around the boot/trunk?
@bert - shame. it is worth asking them about it, albeit only a 14 day replacement applies. I had mine swapped over on the 2nd. The idea is to get approval from an Apple store rep first - and they’re fairly reasonable most of the time.

Yes, build quality on mbp’s is really disapointing and this issue has not been fixed with the latest update of the line either. Despite the entirely new manufacturing process these darn things still have lid gaps. Every one on display in my closest store has the issue as well as the three I’ve gone through trying to find one of better quality.
